HISTORY OF OODUA PROGRESSIVE UNION

Oodua Progressives Union (OPU) is a pan Yoruba organization formed by Iba Gani Abiodun Ige Adams the 15th Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland in 2010 to create an enabling platform for all who believe in yoruba culrure, tradition and its heritage and the sons and daughters of Oduduwa in Diaspora.

Oodua Progressive Union (OPU) is a non-governmental, non-religious organization, formed to foster unity amongs the Yoruba race and provide a platform for all Yoruba sons and daughters in the Diaspora to Work for same common interest of Yoruba black race.

The organization was born in Mumbai, India in 2010 but was launched in Mumbai India November 2012. On September 7th 2013 Great Britain was launched, Germany on September 10th 2013, Pre launching of France on the 12th September 2013, Holland was officially launched on September 14th 2013, Austria on the 16th of August 2014, Spain on the 14th of august 2014, Sweden on the 29th of November 2014

Official launching of France on the 5th of December 2014. Cyprus was launched on the 5th of February 2015, United States of America chapter was pre launched in March 2015, Turkey in May 2015

Republic of Ireland was officially launched 20th of June 2015, The Gambia 6th of November 2015, South Africa 16th of April 2016, Italy 26th of June 2016, Senegal 8th of November 2015, OPU Finland was launched on the 17th September 2016 and Malaysia 9th December 2016.

United Arab Emirates chapter was launched on November 2017, Canada on the 3rd of September 2018, Luxembourg on the 17th May 2019, Belgium 25th May 2019, Cambodia on the 15th October 2019.

Uganda, Kenya, Mali and all other countries were also launched.

On the last count, OPU now exists in 104 countries across the world. The organization is saddled with the responsibility of re-awakening the dead spirit of the culturally diverse Yoruba nation with a strong determination and objective of emancipating,liberating, orientating and re-orientating our cultural value and race.

We are of the firm belief that with a common sense of purpose, the Yoruba race can work towards realizing the dreams and aspiration of our forefathers.

OPU MISSION>>>
To create an enabling economically viable platform,promoting peace, unity and harmonious existence among all in Diaspora, through a reawakening and strengthening of huge culturally diverse and ancestral heritage of Yoruba and our Afro in other countries with ideas ,consolidation and working together for the common interest.

OPU AIMS AND OBJECTIVES>>>
To work for the political and economic emancipation of our culture and tradition. OPU is determined to build Oodua House in each country where the organization exists to serve as a rallying point for all in the Diaspora where it exists.
The Oodua House in each country will also offer members opportunity to generate funds.To offer a platform for assistance in their country of residence.
OPU is dedicated to promoting and defending the rich cultural heritage of black race among our people in the Diaspora.

The mission of the OPU is to:Stimulate and nurture the interest of all in rich cultural heritage of their people and to help discover the power and richness of our history.

OPU seek to attract interest and research and teaching of Yoruba language to Yoruba sons and daughters in the Diaspora in order to keep them abreast of their history and background.

Part of the vision of OPU is to create a platform where we members in the Diaspora can meet to offer support for one another and aggregate the interest of their race.

Part of OPU mission is to determined to provide members in their countries/Diaspora with the most effective representation in their country of residence and to preserve and promote the historical cultural heritage of our people.

In OPU we are determined to inspire and nurture the undying spirit of love and sharing among us in Diaspora.

To create, make a difference and leave a lasting legacy for the future generation of all that believe in our culture heritage and tradition anywhere in the world.

To inspire moments of optimism and happiness among Yoruba people and black race in the Diaspora.

OPU goal is to create a platform for all members in the Diaspora to contribute positively to the unity and progress of our race, cultural heritage and traditions.

The Oodua House will serve as a rallying point for all in their country of residence, as well as generate funds for them.
The organization will work towards rekindling the interest of all memvers in the affairs of our people anywhere in the world.
Members from different countries of the world would be better placed to pull resources together with the aims of helping to develop our mission.
To develop and offer assistance to members who may have genuine political or economic interest in their country of residence.

The organization will serve as an interactive point for all members, as well as offer a platform where robust contributions to debates about happenings around us.
The organization will serve as a platform for intellectual exchanges on our cultural matters. OPU will have a research center with the sole aim of carrying out continuous researches into the history, culture and heritage of the Yoruba race.
The organization will avail members the opportunity to contribute to political issues as well and also contribute to the development of the country it exists and the home land.
The organization will further strengthen the unity of our people in the Diaspora.

The organization will serve as an avenue for cross fertilization of idea among our people in the Diaspora.
Oodua Progressive Union in all countries chapters should strive to maintain a well established platform of interaction,connection and networking.
To God be the glory, in year 2025, 0odua Progressive Union is 15 years old. We are existing in 104 countries and we are still counting.
Lets work together to bring all Son's and Daughters of Yoruba in Daispora together and showing love to all Yoruba Decendant Worldwide.
